Thoughts on the Gun Violence Issue

First off, I’d like to say this is gonna be a long read,  but I encourage those that are interested/concerned about gun laws to keep reading.  Secondly, I fully admit that I’m not well versed on the laws that are being discussed, passed, or expiring.  I don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to this meaning I can’t research it as much as I’d like, so feel free to correct me if I say something false or untrue.  Lastly, my goal is to clarify, debunk and discuss many of the issues I keep hearing about on firearms and violence.  I realize this is intrinsically tied to political views, so I ask that if you comment please keep it civil.  Feel free to disagree, but respect that others might not share your same views.

So with that daunting intro, let’s get to it! 😀

I forgot that I set this blog up for a class XD
I forgot to go over the rubric for what we were all supposed to have working on our sites and instead focused on what I wanted my own blog to have.
Sorry Tim, my bad XD

Portfolio Project

January 9, 2011 Leave a comment

I’m starting to get my space set up for my portfolio project. I’ll be using Drupal 6 instead of 7 since I don’t really have the time to be trouble shooting my CMS and my site. I’ll probably see about upgrading the site to it once I have it working, but that will be a project for the future.

Joomla 1.6 Review

January 7, 2011 Leave a comment

Though the finished version still won’t be out for a week or so, Joomla 1.6 has a lot going for it.  There were quite a few improvements to the system over 1.5, but the two main ones that we looked at was a better ACL system and a revamped categorization system.  We weren’t able to find anything out about security though, which was surprising considering how close to the release date it is, but we’re guessing it’s just as good as 1.5’s.  As of right now, there’s not much out for commercial text on the program (makes sense since it’s still in Beta) but the developer community is one of the strongest I’ve seen.  When it comes out, 1.6 should be a pretty solid choice for anyone looking for a CMS.

CMS Install

January 6, 2011 Leave a comment

Just finished installing both Joomla 1.5 and Drupal on my webspace.  My site’s still blank, but I’ll be coming up with a couple of placeholder pages sometime over the weekend.  I have the CMS’s in their own folders within my site so I can develop each independently of each other.  I’m leaning more towards Drupal for developing my semester project since it has better integration with Flash.

Also, for those that haven’t decided yet, has a built in zip/unzipper in their ftp structure.  All I had to do was upload the zip files and then extract them within the ftp.

Semester prospects

January 6, 2011 3 comments

I’m starting to narrow down a semester project for the winterim.  I’m caught between developing my own portfolio site using Drupal and Flash or taking up the offer to work on the new CNMT site.  I was involved in the initial setup of the CNMT site (you can see me in the banner) so I’m not sure if I want to return to that project, but it would be a great portfolio item.
