Simple Drupal 7 Inline CSS

December 2, 2012 1 comment

Styling a Drupal site can be pretty daunting and sometimes all you really want is a little inline CSS to get the job done.  All you really need is Blocks, PHP filter and some built in Drupal code.  In my example, I wanted to override some of the styling on a content type that displayed two columns at 50% width each rather than having them form to how much space was being used.

The Service Links module for Drupal is a handy little tool that lets you add links to share your various posts with a wide array of social networking sites such as Facebook, Digg.com, Twitter and LinkedIn.  The module is stand-alone tool built for Drupal 5.x and up (7 is currently in development).  It also can be combined with other modules like Views, ShareThis, and Forward for increased functionality.

Site still under construction

January 12, 2011 Leave a comment

Still constructing the site.   I have a lot of the modules that I’m planning to use added and now I’m going to focus more on the content.  The big section I’m going to be developing is the Flash component of my site.  My goal is to provide a fairly integrated Flash/Web experience. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m also going to look into finding a way to load my WordPress posts into my Drupal site.  It would be really sweet if I could update one site and it goes out to all the other spaces I have.  Not sure if there’s a component for this, so it might go on my own development block.  Needless to say, might not have this done by the end of the semester, but could be fun to have.

Drupal Install Continued

January 11, 2011 2 comments

Drupal has been pretty good so far.  There’ve been a few hiccups but nothing too major so far.  I’ve added quite a few modules to add functionality to both my content side and my admin side.  Here’s the list:

I also added a big of my own html to create the Login/Logout link in my top nav.  I created a Block that would display the login link if the user was anonymous and another one to display the logout if the user was authenticated.

For those interested, here’s a link to the work in progress: http://arcemise.com/

Drupal Captcha

January 10, 2011 Leave a comment

I found a pretty basic Captcha system for my Drupal login screen.  It was a little tricky to install, if only because it was the first component I’d installed on my site.  After finding out where I needed to put all the files and where to configure them, it worked really well.  Fairly intuitive settings.

On the other hand, I had trouble finding where the feedback system is on Drupal’s module pages.  They don’t have any rating system other than “Most Installed”.  The only other feedback system set up is bug reporting.

Drupal Install Quirk

January 9, 2011 2 comments

Had some trouble accessing the admin section of my drupal site after I installed version 6.x.  It turns out there was a variable in the system table of my database that was a 1 instead of a 0.  Go figure.

I just wanted to update that the problem I encountered when moving to the production server had something to do with Update Status module. When I disabled it (via phpMyAdmin – go to system table and set status of module to 0) I could then get to my production sites admin pages. Perhaps Update Status was hanging trying to phone home or whatever it does.

Full solution
